Leprechaun Run
On Saturday, March 12th, the city hosts the fourth annual San Diego Leprechaun Run 5K in addition to the Kids 1K race. The events take place at Pacific Beach on Garnet Avenue from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Registration is open now for all competitions. Each participant receives a timing chip when registering.
The Leprechaun Run is the first in the 2022 RUN PB Challenge, which also includes the Pacific Beach 5K and the San Diego Santa Run. Participating in all three events entitles runners to special finishing bling. Signing up for all of the events early provides runners with a specialty bib.
40th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival
The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins on March 12th at 10:30 a.m. at Fifth Avenue and Laurel Street. More than 120 entries are scheduled to be in the downtown-area procession. Pick a spot to see the floats, high school marching bands, dancers, equestrian teams, dignitaries, and clowns. Guests staying in San Diego hotels will be delighted when they watch this parade, which is the largest of its kind west of the Mississippi River.
Balboa Park hosts a number of festivities following the parade. The festival lasts from 9:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. and includes a presentation of the flag at 9:45 a.m. Three stages in the park are scheduled to present live entertainment in the form of step dancers, Irish folk bands, and singers. The park will have a beer garden and a kid’s zone along with numerous craft booths and a Celtic village serving traditional ethnic foods.
2022 Irish 4 a Day
The St. Patrick’s Day Party Hop takes place on Friday, March 11th from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., Saturday, March 12th from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., and Thursday, March 17th from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. The pub crawl begins at the American Junkie and includes more than 15 bars, nightclubs, and restaurants along Fifth Avenue. The Gaslamp Quarter festivities include live music.
San Diego ShamROCK Music & Beer Festival
The Gaslamp Quarter transforms into a Celtic carnival block party on Saturday, March 12th. The event begins at 2:00 p.m. and lasts until midnight. Live Celtic and Irish rock bands are scheduled to perform. The day’s lineup includes the popular Young Dubliners. The selection of scheduled live entertainment also features performances by traditional Irish step dancers. Along with plenty of green beer, the festivities provide adult guests with the chance to test their luck by playing Giant Beer Pong, Giant Lucky Jenga, and Pot of Gold Cornhole.
